@Kitsune44X You make it sound like there were only a few things wrong with the film. For starters, the film has Beowulf have sex with Grendel's mother. The only thing that happens between Beowulf and Grendel's mother in the original is Beowulf beating her up with a giant sword.

@NicklasVB Lol, this is trailer no. 2 not Beowulf 2. That's why the number two is after the word "trailer". Beowulf 2 trailer/ Beowulf trailer 2... see the difference?

@Sw33tSm0k3 hrothgar was king of the danes. beowulf crossed a body of water to get to hrothgars kingdom. beowulf was a geat which is an area of southern sweden. if it was norway he wouldnt have needed to cross the water. it is also explicitly stated that it was in denmark. the island that hrothgars kingdom was located on was sjaelland. all 13 of the men were geats. the rest were danes.

I read the original poem and saw this. At first I was pissed because of how the first 1/3 was so dead on, and the rest was completely different. then I thought of something. Stories of old heroes were often told by friends as well as by the person themselves. Often they will overdramatize the stories to make themselves look good. Like the scene about the swim match. Wiglaf states that, "last time it was 13" (I think). True old school fans of the poem will be pissed, but hey thats hollywood.
It's not dead-accurate to the original text, no, but then part of that lies in literature being a different media than film (literature describes inner-thoughts, motivations, visual details in different ways than does film). What's more, the original text is somewhat vague on a few points- Grendel's mother's appearance for instance- so some liberties had to be taken, of course. By no means does this modern retelling "suck." I, too, took a Early English Literature course in college. ;)
