In this video, I talk about my first impressions of the Tribes: Ascend closed beta, which opened this weekend and proceeded to consume my life. The first time you kill an enemy in mid-air with a spinfusor disc, you will understand my addiction.

  • I don't know much about this game but it looks like a running game. Why shoot when you can avoid them and win?

  • @prodimid As a flag runner, your primary role is to avoid the enemy and capture the flag. There are plenty of games where I will get fewer than 5 kills if I'm running flags. However, there are also games where I'll get 30+ kills when my team needs help in other roles (flag chasing, destroying enemy generator, etc.). It all depends on what your team needs.

  • Oh.... uploader gets people think that game is great when compared to T2 [base] or even T1. There ain't almost anything what made Tribes so great. Ascend falls to same group (based to current closed beta state) than did Tribes: Vengeance (what sold only 17 000 copies).

  • @TheFri13 While you're naturally entitled to your opinion, I don't find that there's much room to complain about a game that's free to play. You get to try it risk-free, and if you don't like it, no one's forcing you to play it. As a Tribes veteran, I find Ascend quite enjoyable, even if it is markedly different from Tribes 1 & 2.

Also, Tribes: Vengeance sold about 47,000 copies (which is obviously still a complete failure, but it did a little better than you stated).

  • @vol1tion I am on closed beta. I report my opinions and my findings to developers. Even that the game will be free in future and closed beta is free as well. And if there is reason to criticize, then it should be given.

The T:A is so badly designed as it is being made for consoles same time and both games need to be same.

And I did remember wrong that count, I just remembered it was under 50 000 but it was total flop, by same reasons as T:A is having now as features. Of course it is free...

  • @TheFri13 What's your source for that belief? Hi-Rez hasn't given any indication that they plan to release Ascend on console, and frankly, I find that scenario very unlikely.

  • Brandon, what an excellent review so far. xNaSaoNe and I cannot put this game down. You were right bro. You were right.

  • @TheFri13 I'm not sure I like the sound of Tribes moving slower on console, but I guess since some people can't buy an expensive computer, it would be cool.. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be in the works at the moment..

  • @colorblind1333 If you are interested, try Tribes 2 what is free. You can get it from tribesnext . com community site. (game + patch about 590MB). The real T2 the base (servers running it are now in variant mods) but many likes Classic mod because it is faster and simpler. Play the tutorials in single player mode and you get the idea very well.

  • @TheZigZagg Not exactly so. Autoaim is needed if weapons are pinpoint accurate. But you can still have great FPS game for gamepads without autoaim by nerfing everything else, like how targets are moving, splash damage, inaccuracy to weapons and giving possibility to move faster so even keyboard+mouse players have harder time to hit you. Autoaim isn't needed and T:A is great example how they have managed to port Tribes to gamepads by nerfing it.

  • @TheFri13

The only reason fps games work so well on consoles is because of the generous auto aim, this game couldnt have that.

The level of skill required for this game would make it completely fail on consoles..

  • @vol1tion They have given that in interviews where they said they want to bring all free-to-play games for XBox Live and Playstation Network as well but they need to discuss about the possibilities to get Free-To-Play there. The problem is that free-to-play use different money exchange than XBox Live and Playstation Network. In interview they said that Sony has been willing to allow Steam and other store to come there so they hope they get their games for consoles as well.

  • great video
