As great as Bill is, Scott LaFaro's bass under Bill's solo is what makes this recording special to me.

I've always loved this tune - it has a sense of mystery about it. It fits Bill Evans' musical persona perfectly. I also love the fact that it's been used as a sample so effectively in "Setting Son" by the hip hop outfit Unspoken Heard.

@orqsilva that's probably true but in a later interview, Miles called Bill Evans one of his favorite pianists.

@orqsilva ...and after one whole year, your post is still the top comment. :D

Essentially a Bill Evans composition with a melody, perhaps,by Miles. One of my favorite bass solos of all time. Very free, very melodic and if reflects the essence of the tune in every note, no licks here. One of the greatest jazz groups of all time. If only these two cats could have played together for another 4 of 5 years, jazz might evolved in another direction.

Thanks. Bill was a superb accompanist also. He was the perfect foil for Miles, hence "Kind of Blue" which is (and probably will remain) the biggest selling jazz record in history. Bill was largely responsible for the sound of that album. Unfortunately, Miles, the ego-maniacal and abusive Miles harassed him out of the band. Also, Tony Bennett album with Bill is one of the best things Tony Bennett ever did as a vocalist.
