Playing along with the song Already Gone. I've always loved the guitar work in this one, which I believe was done by Don Felder.

Guitar is a mongrel strat, squier body and a custom, compound radius neck with a Hendrix-era headstock, ebony fingerboard and Dunlop jumbo 6100 frets. The pickup you hear is the bridge pickup, which is a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. Mongrel guitars are fun to build, especially strats. You can spend as much or as little as you want.

Amp setup you hear is a Jekyll & Hyde pedal for gain, and a Marshall JMP-1, Marshall Valvestate 80x80 Watt amp through a vintage early 70s 4x12 half stack cabinet. Don't believe the hype on these cabinets, though...they have very little midrange and the high end is VERY hard to control, especially in micing situations.

  • hey can you tell me what tabs you used?

  • No tabs. I learned this on my own when I was about 15 or 16 years old.

  • Do you find is difficult to get the hotrails to sound like a strat? I've bought one but i'm concerned it won't sound like a strat tone at all...

  • The hotrails has a coil tapping ability, read the instructions when you get yours, I recommend looking into using it.

The full hotrails, wired in series, has a much fatter tone than a standard single coil stratocaster pickup, but if you utilise the coil tapping ability with a selector switch you might be able to get two tones for the price of one.

    Good luck.
