That's OK, there's lots of other places for you to be on YouTube. This song IS iconic: to millions of young people at the time, and we love it still. I was 10 years old when I was hearing this on my little transistor radio at night with all those other great sixties songs streaming across the nation...before the days of FM. Music wasn't just entertainment to us: those were days of turmoil...Vietnam war...civil rights...and music spoke to us and helped us through it all. Sorry you don't "get" it.
