I had often daydreamed about skiing the bare slopes of Little Mountain when I would drive along US Highway 191 commuting to Rock Springs, Wyoming from my little town on our monthly supply runs. Most of the areas were not ski-able even in the dead of winter. Often brush stuck out and there were completely bare spots on the mountain. I always figured the key was to wait until about March once the snow drifts had built up nicely and then ski down.
The next problem lay in the fact that this one of the most remote spots in the country and hiking was about the only option (thus why in the video you do not see us hiking up to the big drifts where I could have skied nearly 300 feet or more of vertical. Most other forms of transportation were out of the question. You can find some old desolate road to take you up but often times the road will be 99% with a 300 foot wide 4 or 5 foot deep drift blocking your passage about midway up. In the winter time this often happened to that stretch of US Hwy 191 which would prompt WyDot to close the road.
Needless to say I never really imagined that I would be able to ski this spot on the brink of June. I don't mention it in the video but we are at about 7,200 above sea level at this particular spot, so it's not uncommon
