If agent Ryan was retired then he had no clearance to be going around with active agents, if he got shot or somthing how the hell would they explain that away? he may know the case better than most but he should respect the fact that it's not his job anymore.

He's just an old fart that doesn't want to admit it and he's become obsessive with solving crimes that he has deemed have been left unsolved by him. That's what I think...

Just started watching these earlier episodes. I think this is the first episode where we see Elle starting to unravel, which ultimately leads to her breakdown, and departure from the BAU early in season 2. She lost her cool, and confronted Scott Harmon when they raided his home, and later in the episode when ex-agent Ryan is talking to her he says "well the BAU doesn't really employ many agents with a relaxing mentality" to which she just gives a blank stare. Foreshadowing things to come.
