The "Prairie Star", the only working Bucyrus Erie 1360-W Walking Dragline in the world, stripping overburden from a coal mine. There were only two of these machines ever made. With a 325 ft long boom, a bucket capacity of 50 cubic yards, operating weight of 6,233,000 lbs and standing 215 ft tall this thing is a earth moving giant.

  • It looks slow because it is "chopping" the coal seam, making it easier for the smaller loaders to handle.Chopping is when the bucket is dropped at the top and dragged downwards.Far less efficient than drawing upwards, but in this instant the seam is above the draglines pad.Imagine even some of the biggest loaders against the height of that seam,it would be too dangerous for them to tackle.

On another note each scoop is about £5000 of coal if sold trade to merchants, how many buckets a day?

  • @seisix6 Except... that's not a goddamn coal seam.

  • The boom looks like one I saw near Rock Springs WY. You should check out the dragline and shovel I made for my kids.

  • @1bad55chev The only other dragline of this model (there are only two in the world) is in Lynnville, Indiana, and that one has been parked for a couple years now.

  • @vantagetes - Has to be the one from the old "Squaw Creek" mine with the indian picture on the back that now sits at Eby and Dickyville Rds. All other idle drags in the area have been scrapped.

There was talk about reusing it in that area but the estimate to repair all the electric only was in the area of 15 million according to one of the former operators.

  • @smokeeater357 That is correct.

  • @vantagetes Then obviously for want of a better word he is just fucking around with a multi million pound bit of kit.

  • At the Coal Mine I work at, We have a BE 1570, Pulling About 86 yds. Nice Video!!

I am A Groundman for our Dragline, I love Working Around These Machines

  • It might look slow but, I worked at BE when the Ursa Major was being built. The boom is longer than a football field, a 90 degree cycle only took like 45 seconds. thats turning 90 degrees and back for the next bucket full, do the math.... We did the math, the tip of the boom it going over 70 MPH when it is swinging. That machine is at least 5 stories tall and the boom is about 300' long. that machine is moving big time!!!!

  • some tool for filling plant pots :-)

  • moves slow but big loads quanity that counts electricity yes great vid
