Thanks for posting this. I saw the movie in 1958 and still have the book and two copies of the LP (but no turntable, unfortunately.) It's been a long time so I'm probably long, but this appears to be a documentary about the ship and movie, not the movie itself. I will never forget how it began; It started in small screen and then, as the ship put out to sea, the curtains pulled back to the super-wide Cinemiracle format and the music began. Maybe this was before before that(?).
Thanks for bringing back such memories. I saw the movie with my mother back in 1958. It was amazing when the curtains pulled back to reveal the special cinematography. I wish I could find the sountrack on CD. I have two albums but no turntable.
Thank you so much for posting this. I saw the movie in 1958 at the Graumann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Calif. After seeing it I fell in love with the cello after seeing and hearing the great Pablo Cassals playing on the deck of the Windjammer and took cello lessons. I played the cello in music class all thru high school and to this day it is still my favorite concert instrument. Thanks again for the memories!
Thank you so much for posting a movie that I have loved since I was a child. I have the movie book and the soundtrack record. It is wonderful to see a clip from this wonderful movie. This movie deserves to be restored and released on DVD. There are so many of us that are waiting.
Wow! The music soundtrack from "The Windjammer" has been a much loved part of my
since the mid 1960's. My mom and aunt's had seen the picture c. 1958, but this is the first time I've ever seen ANYTHING from or about the film. Thank you so much for posting this.
Glad to have finally seen at least a little bit of this movie. Morton Gould's soundtrack is one of the most nautically evocative scores ever written next to Rogers/Bennett's "Victory At Sea". Although I still have the somewhat worn LP, it's a shame that it has never been re-released on CD. I also have the picture book that went with it. Apparently actress Celeste Holm had a distant relative who was a member of the "Christian Radich" crew.
My father was the chief projectionist seconded to Stockholm to assist the set up of this film. My mother and I accompanied him. I was a young lad of 10 and this magnificent film and soundtrack has stayed with me since. I still have the L.P. but havent played it for years. How good it would be to see once more this fabulous film.
