Elisha Flamingo

A strange but true tale unfolded on the Ottawa River 10 years ago. A pink flamingo showed up in November 1997. Birders were curious! It turned out that this Chilean flamingo had been on the run for a month, after escaping from Connecticut's Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy. Worried with winter coming on, birders from Nepean Wild Bird Centre tried to capture the wily bird. It took nearly 6 weeks, with all Ottawa watching the flamingo's escapades as she became a media star. She was then returned to a grand reception in Connecticut, to her mate Maurice. Her story flew into local folklore with a song, a children's book, a quilt and now a music video.
