On September 8th, 2001, the Texas Longhorns hosted the North Carolina Tarheels. In the 4th quarter, with only a little time left in the game and Texas up 38-14, Texas scored a touchdown to put them up 44-14.

Instead of kicking an extra point or going for two, Mack Brown opts not to go for the extra point in honor of fallen player Cole Pittman (#44), who died in a car accident on February 26th, 2001. In a true sign of team class and solidarity, Major Applewhite put his knee down to leave the final score at 44.

DT #44 Cole Pittman RIP.
