Advance to 1:02 to see all but one burner light. Now, advance to 2:12 to see the explosion.

It had made 2 explosions over the past year that shook the house before worsening to a constant state of smaller explosions this past week. I was lucky enough to catch the third biggest explosion here on camera.

This 100,000 btu unit was finally fixed this morning. Clogged orifices were the culprit. A simple cleaning is all that was needed to restore it to excellent operating condition.

The first start was near normal, and due to a delay in the thermostat, there's a lot of idle time I wanted to edit. And since I filmed it at 8AM after a night of no sleep, I wasn't thinking to re-start the camera. I decided against editing due to the cumbersome editing nature of my camera, which would have required me to advance though the entire video in slow motion, my lack of editing software currently on this computer, and being pressed for time. I had a million things to to that night, and actually filmed this a half an hour before the repairman showed up.

  • Why is there 2 pilot lights?

  • @relimes Actually, there's just one. The illusion's of 2 pilot lights is due to the fact that the pilot is oriented & angled just so that the flame splits around the center piece of the heat exchanger. Thanks for watching!

  • That's the one that shakes the house! Thx for sharing.

  • @0Rduckling You're welcome. I've never taken the time to look into how to make "video responses" until yesterday. They make it so much easier to link people to things, instead of asking them to search all my videos for a particular one. P.S. It hasn't shaken the house since we fixed it. LOL I've always heard that Rheem is built 100X better than Janitrol, but when it comes to your furnace & my furnace, it seems like all the old ones were built like tanks.

  • @wawawis I have a 1964 Tappan natural gas in my basement. It's loud but it hasn't had a problem all the years it has been neglected, even though on of the fan blades is bent in the blower which makes it really loud.

  • I had one 90 plus turn on the MGV first then the glow coil. These people are like my furnace is making a banging sound.

  • @relimes one pilot that has a two direction deflector hood.
