Chapter 29 Part 2

"I'll go next!" Gabby said.
"Then me!" Maddy cried.
"Nick J after Madds!" Nick exclaimed, shooting his hand up in the air.
Great, Olivia thought. Now her chance of singing Joe a romantic love song was postponed, and just as she'd came up with the perfect one.
Maddy had raised her hand because she sensed that since everyone was singing what they felt so far, Gabby might too, and Maddy had to sing against that.
Nick didn't know why he'd raised his hand in such a flurry just to sing right after Maddy, but he just knew something was coming, and thought he didn't know what that was, or what song he was supposed to sing, but what was done was done. He's have to come up with the perfect song within about 6-7 minuets.
"And I'll go after Nick," Olivia said weakly, while Gabby fiddled with the remote.
Soon enough the intro of 'Here (In Your Arms)' by Hellogoodbye started flowing through the speakers, as Gabby slightly bobbed her head to the beat.
"I like where we are, when we drive in your car..." She sang, looking straight toward Nick. "I like where we are... Here..."
Oh, she was good, Maddy thought. Dedicating such a romantic song to Nick.
Maddy glanced over at Nick. He was smiling. And not the tight-liped smile he was famous for, but an actual toothy-grin. The one they always talk about in magazines like Pop Star or Tiger Beat.
Darn it.
Well then, she'd have to come up with a nice song that indicated her feelings for Nick, or Gabby, or whoever, wouldn't she?
So she thought about it, as Gabby sang her song staring longingly into Nick's beautiful brown eyes.
And she came up with the perfect song: Girlfriend, by Avril Lavigne.
That song DEFINITELY described her feelings! About Nick, about Gabby, and about everything she was feeling.
This was the song.
When Gabby's song was over and Maddy's turn came, she would sing Girlfriend.

Gabby finished her song with a little bow and a smile toward Nick.
He smiled back.
Now, it was finally her turn.
I'm going to sing Girlfriend and tell them both how I feel, she thought, as she stood up and received the mic from Gabby.
But as she got up on the mini-stage and sneaked a glance at Nick, he heart pounded.
He was squinting in the light, and he looked gorgeous.
Suddenly, Maddy didn't want to complain about his girlfriend, or tell him how it would be so much better if he was with herself － she just wanted to apologize about what she'd done.
The little game she played that hurt him so deeply.
She was an idiot.
Trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to form in her eyes, she dialed in her song.
The intro started with a techno-ish beat.
This was definitely not the Avril song.
