What spurred me to put together this short video were:

1. I find our YOG cheer song (that "OYeah" thinggy) lacks energy and motivation to strive.

2. The support for YOG is top down, with lots of astroturfing in the media, as 88% of the population are not interested.

The music track used in this video is the song "Moskau" released by a German group called "Genghiskan" in 1980, the year of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. It was used by a Austrialian TV station in their coverage of the said Olympics.

A China singer altered the lyrics and made it into a mandarin songs in their celebrations of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The video are made up of clips from the Malaysia Cup in the early 90s. In those days the support by Singaporean for our national football team is spontaneous, and from the ground up. Every seconds of what you see in the video reflects the genuine spirit of Singaporeans in supporting our national football team then.

  • wow! how u got those precious footage?

  • @moonlightaffairs - They can be found in in youtube, but only those in the 90s. Do a search of "Malaysia Cup" in youtube and you will see. I missed those in the 70s and 80s as well, the likes of Kim Song, Dollah Kassim, Mat Noh, Samad Allapitchey, Lee Bee Seng, Edmund Wee, etc.

  • how you know 88% not interested?

  • @gizmo120169 - It's according to the online poll on CNA website..

  • Ah, i was born in the wrong era. Foreign talents killed the Singapore spirit and no one cares about anything besides money making anymore.

  • It's sad how we no longer have national heroes, just mandated individuals and petty officials.

  • @popdjdysh

    Singapore withdrew

  • @gamechanix After so many years, why suddenly a dispute? that's the question to ask. Brunei never had major political issues with Malaysia.

  • @popdjdysh

Singapore withdrew from the competition following a dispute with the Football Association of Malaysia over gate receipts

Brunei won the cup in 1999 and continue to be involved

  • @Legary We were kicked out of malaysia cup by malaysia after we finally won the cup, because 'we are technically not a malaysian states team'. If we never won, malaysia may not have bothered to kick us out, its a political issue. If S League is not created, singapore football team will technically have no one to play with.

  • @gizmo120169 then how many % you think support YOG apart from schoolchildren?
