so..... your teaching ball flight by how hard you squeeze your thumb and pointer finger AND not path and club face position at impact. Well, that is just not correct - backed by science.

This shit is the worst

Cameramans comments sometimes make me cringe because they are just so far from what mike is trying to say

his name is Jim i heard it!

@dschultz6072 wow. take your grip, squeeze your swing wreckers. face closes, right? another thing, without the swing wreckers squeezed, the end of the first part of the swing, barring any manipulation, WILL produce a cupped wrist, and an OPEN FACE. squeeze your swing wreckers, you produce a flat wrist.

holy cow. you're really blowing my mind here mike. hogan, notorious for hooking the ball, calls the fingers he tries to disengage the swing wreckers. this is so fascinating.

This brings to mind pg29 of Hogan's five lessons. He talks about using the thumb and forefinger for finesse shots but recommends new golfers even practice with these fingers off the club. I slice, I should be able to cure it by adjusting my thumb and forefinger, yes?

Hi sevam1, I just started playing golf. This Saturday will be my first game played. I was wondering if you had anything for a novice. Although I am learning about Hogan I am looking for some good nuggets of wisdom for just starting out. My concern is to keep the ball straight. Oh, what is the title of your book?

For your general fade shot, do you have the right part of your right thumb gently pressing against the shaft with your right forefinger for support?
What are your thoughts on ball position? Inside left heel for all clubs from flat lies?
Why do some people use the middle of stance for high irons, with low irons moving forward in the stance?

Hogan used a consistant forward position. Snead by contrast moved the ball back in his stance as he moved in to the higher irons. There is merit to both approaches, but I prefer Hogan's method because I find it easier to aim that way.

Do you think that a forward ball position, constant in relation to left foot, actually results in a variable ball position (relative to left shoulder) if you vary stance width as Hogan described? Whereas if you keep the feet the same width and move the ball away from left foot achieves the same effect...ie. varying the location of the ball relative to the lowest point of the swing arc?

I've done better with alignment using Hogan's method so I'm partial to it. There is no question that many golfers (Snead a particularly notable one) have done well with varying ball position further back as you progress through the higher lofted clubs. I just have not found the consisancy I want with that method. You sure can put some zip on the wedges with them back in the stance though and that would be one exception I might make. You know, if I really had to jack some spin on something.
