So, as I strongly hinted at in the update video, I am starting a new LP that goes back to the channel's roots. One of the original reasons I even made a YT channel was to upload Pokémon battles. Whilst that has died on the channel along with my interest in the main games (Gen 5 competitive has never appealed to me at all), that doesn't mean the series is lost on me entirely! I am a big lover of TCG's like this, and I have since decided to return back to my childhood and play through this gem once again.

Unfortunately it is a very slow-starting game. Make no mistake, I am not gushing praise out at this through rose-tinted lenses or anything - I know the obvious flaws in the game and this is clearly one of them. Unskippable tutorial which cannot be sped up and takes about 15 mins? Ridiculous. Then again those who know nothing of the TCG would benefit enormously from this so it's ok to have... just not without the option to speed it up somehow!

So anyhow, I go through the basic rules as Dr. Mason "guides" me through the game, and explain most of the controls (outside of the obvious A selects stuff and B cancels). It is important that you know this for future parts, so make sure to take it in!

I make some comparisons to Yu-Gi-Oh here, despite YGO coming out after this game. Oh well. I was a big YGO player for several years after it came out, so that's why.
Also vote for what deck I should take into the next part!

  • so he doesn't feel left out i vote bulbasaur as i used him back in pokémon red back in the day.

  • Charmander and friends! I don't think you'll be doing another deck. :p FINALLY a game I know, even if because I play it now. :p

  • I'm for the Charmander and Friends deck.

  • Charmander and Friends. The deck I always use :D

@StarforceonAir There's no Speed deck, since it's a turn based game.

  • Well, I'll vote for the same deck I started this game with when I had it on my GBC.

I vote for Charmander & Friends Deck.

  • Aaaand this is what happens when I don't watch the whole video.

Go for Charmander & Friends Deck.

  • Go for a speed based deck. hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, if you ask me.

  • Squirtle & Friends was the deck I went through when i originally played this, and from what i remember it worked out very well for me.
