I would love to be on the footplate of one of these spectacular machines, traveling through one of the most beautiful railways in the world! Sigh...someday.

A tourist from Canada, I rode the Talyllyn one grey day. Everyone took the closed cars, and indeed it got quite rainy, but at end of line we were summarily turfed out to accommodate a group of school kids on a cross-country ramble, "because they had reservations!" As each child was wearing a slicker and hat, there was a great deal of argument, but I was told I could get soaked in an open car while the kids stayed warm and dry or walk back, my choice. Terrible customer service to say the least!

Why not make one? just an old bit of terry towelling cut, doubled over and taped over the mic. (as per the tutorial on The Railway Channel)

thanks for the tip, was considering a bit foam for the time being, I hear the real thing is better so I have just ordered a Gustbuster, should have it a week or so.

Very nice indeed, shame about the wind noise though, have you tried shielding the mic?

Funny you should ask that, trying to get hold of a windjammer at the moment.
