Bridport to Maiden Newton as seen from one of the last trains ever to run along this much-loved branch line before it closed in 1975. This silent film is shown with kind permission of John Giles-Townsend, who shot it with his late brother Neil.

  • This a great find. Probably unique, we should be grateful for this record.

  • Finally, what remains of the line is soon to get a new lease of life: work has begun on converting it into an all-weather-surfaced cyclepath. From photos I've seen of the trackbed now, the builders have their work cut out for them (certainly, the nearer one gets to Bridport) - anyway, search for "bridport trailway" if you're interested in further news.
