This is a video of my bunraku puppet, made in Perth at the UNIMA 2008 festival, through the masterclass with Nori Sawa. See http://www.puppetsinmelbourne.com.au/blog.php/2008/07/06/my-bunraku-puppet-fi... for more info.

  • I'm a theater teacher. I do understand the creative process of the puppet's mechanism, but I do not understand how to get the movement of the head. Please, would you explain how to do it?

  • @yahirdamian I wouldn't explain it, because I screwed it up and therefore couldn't advise anyone on how to make it. The puppet was made during a workshop on bunraku, something I'd never done before. Books and tutorials don't exist for these puppets, you have to learn from a Japanese bunraku maker. The best I can do is suggest you read my notes at my website. (Youtube doesn't let me post a URL here, you can find the link in the video description)

  • @yahirdamian I will also add though that the mechanism is kind of like a cable-control puppet. Cable-control is really just a fancy way of saying that a string or wire is attached to the puppet, and when you pull it from the other end, the puppet moves.
