@xxgg It's strongly recommended that they all be the same capacity and speed. The RAID is built based on the size of the smallest disk, so for RAID-Z2 your total available capacity will be roughly (smallest disk size)*(number of disks - 2).

Quicky, when creating a volume using multiple HDDs, do they all have to be save capacity & speed ? or can I mix and match ? (it'll be for ZFS + RAID-Z2)

@LUZR4LIFE You cannot add drives to a RAID-Z after creating it, but you can (sorta) stripe together two RAID-Z pools to increase the size of the total volume. You lose two drives to parity (without gaining double protection) that way but it's the only way to increase the size of a ZFS volume after creating it besides replacing each drive with a larger one one at a time. For more detailed help, got forums.freenas.org or #freenas on FreeNode IRC.

Great videos. I had issues setting up permissions at 1st but after a few hours I figured it out. Is it possible to add a drive to your volume? I have a total of 7 2TB's and 3 of them are full. I want to do a 7X2TB volume but can only start with 4. THANKS
