This song takes me way back. I don't care what anyone says - this song is an under-rated Classic

wow.. thats cool. ts440S is still my only rig here.. with a dipol attached to it, 100 watts is all i need to get around the globe.
It was a sad day when DAN stopped its service alltogether.. hey, youd find me on the "fists" QRGs 14058 etc.. oh8xat

Yes, I did. But it was for a phone patch. We were on the Congo River in Zaire discharging grain to a lighter ship. The satellite (EB) failed, and we were using a amateur radio (Kenwood TS-440S) to do all our HF Comms. We loaded it into the ship's longwire with 100 watts. The phone patch worked just fine.
I loved that German SITOR unit we had on a German Reflag ship, but I forget the name of it. The ship was renamed M/V Strong Virginian.

Thank you very much Larry for a wonderful video of all the old pictures of Portishead Radio.
My Grandfather used to work there, his name was Terry Falstein, I wonder if you know him?
Thanks again, MaX.

I was one of the few American ships to run traffic through your station. I ran SITOR traffice through there and also sometimes did HF SSB traffic for crew because you had such a good signal. $5/minute was cheaper than the $10/minute or more for satellite comms. You were the best station, and WLO was probably the best American station. The U.S. Coast Guard also ran a lot of SITOR traffic for free, but they have just about stopped thier SITOR operations except for one station. de KCDK KKKK
