A HISTORY IN PICTURES OF THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS MARITIME RADIO STATION SET TO MIKE BATT'S 'PORTISHEAD RADIO' SONG. MORE INFORMATION AT www.portisheadradio.co.uk
As an airline pilot I worked Portishead in HF R/T on a few occasions. As ex MN I think I used them before it became common for aircraft to do so....but I might be wrong.
The old days were the days of true romance in radio. Today it's just a hand full of SM chips on a board and some cable with automated voices. Blaugh! Boring!
Came across this video while looking for something else (that;s the internet for you)!
Brilliant. I worked GKB almost on a daily basis while on Niarchos tankers (1973 - 1986). Could QSO from half-way round the world. Excellent station, first class R/Os.

What kind of emotional shit is this? Don't forget that Brittania hasn't ruled nothing for ages.
