In this video, we have 2 examples of High Dynamic Range Images, or HDRI, being generated. The first is the result of 7 exposures, each 1 f-stop apart. These 7 images are analyzed by the software and a HDRI is generated. Since we have no physical device which can accurately display an HDRI, a process called tone mapping creates a normal image from the HDRI. This tone mapped image can then be processed using typical image processing functions such as contrast adjustment, color correction, and cropping.

In the second example, we have 5 exposures, also 1 f-stop apart. Note how there is detail on the bottom of the shoreline, on the top of the water, and in the objects submersed in the water. While no one exposure captures all of this detail, the final image does so wonderfully.

Visit my web site shown in the video if you would like to download a high quality version of this movie.

These images were acquired in Sandy Hook and Brunswick Maryland.
