@JackKangaroo1 You are right. . there are martial arts that are more 'arts' than 'martial' but thaiboxing aint one of them. the thing is, the arfful ones look pretty, but dont work as well in the street.
@MrByaeger Well to be perfectly blunt about it, I find it difficult to assign the word "art" to any event or activity which consists primarily of people punching and kicking one another. No matter how you sugar coat it, these so-called martial "arts" are exercises in brutality at a very primitive level wherein bludgeoning an opponent into submission is the goal and cerebral concussions (known as 'knock outs') are inflicted upon one's opponent whenever possible. I see no 'art' in any of this.
@JackKangaroo1 i think its always good to pay respect to the historical elements of any art. we do it here in the states with every sporting event, as do most cultures. the Ram Muay is an important and vital part of Thai Boxing, to remove it would be like getting rid of the 7th inning stretch or the touching of gloves in boxing, or the coin toss in football. Muay Thai is not just a simple kickboxing match, its a part of the Thai culture. Rugby matches in New Zealand do a Maori chant, same thing.
Am I the only one who thinks these Muay Thai dances they do before the fight look pretentious and goofy? Reality check: They're in there to beat the crap out of each other, pure and simple. Dressing it up with ritual dance moves beforehand doesn't change that at all.
