After the break, the play was still on the Faroese half for most of the time and few people had any doubts in a secure Irish victory. But, out of the blue and in the only real Faroese attack of the match, Kári Reynheim headed the ball past the stunned goalkeeper Paul Kee and into Northern Ireland net.
The hosts did try to find the net and get their victory, but they were several times denied by the brilliant Jens Martin Knudsen, who played one of the best games of his illustrios international career.
After the final whistle all the Faroese players, supporers and people back home in North Atlantic were overjoyed, while the experienced Billy Bingham and his full-time professional team left their Windsor Park home ground in total disbelief. Once again, after less than a year after Landskrona heroics and Austria triumph, the Faroes proved that their decision to enter FIFA, UEFA and major international football competitions was right. Football really put the tiny Nordic nation on the world map, once and forever!
