@laurapoopie I have a long serrated knife but I have always wondered if they were only good for larger cakes. I have a hat cake to do next week and wondered if I should use the long knife while sculpting since the cake portion isn't that big? I planned to do 3- 8inch layers and 1- 6inch like you did. I do plan to have pictures right in front of me. I am definitely to carve little by little. Sculpting makes me nervous but so many ppl want that look. I hope to do a purse cake really soon as well!

Could you give some tips on cake sculpting? I know that chilling the cake helps. Is there a certain type of knife that works better? I would love any advice. Thanks Laura. I love your cowboy hat cakes!

Thank you so much! Yes chilling the cake is a HUGE help. I love to use a large serrated knife. I bought the long Wilton one that has the white handle. You can find it at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Always have a picture next to what your carving so you have a good visual and do little by little. If you carve too much, there's no going back. :)
