lanty this to me seems like a standard gain boost pedal meaning it's designed not to change the tone
a ts9 will boost the mids, which is fine, but yeilds a different sound.
one is not better,
honestly your best bet for a cheap version of this is a boss sd-1, it still boosts the mids, but not to the level of any ts variety
I have a bone stock sd-1 and prefer it over the screamer, it's just a more bold overdrive, and doesn't get that wah sound, unless you prefer that!

That was an awesome demo, I heard these really make great sounds when placed behind an overdrive preamp like a tube driver. Some ppl even put a few of these in series
