Lend it to Aphex Twin haha

Like MidiChunk said, it creates new and interesting sounds out of something that might not make those sounds. For some, its more about using things in ways they were not intended, some like the challenge of finding glitches in electronics and exploiting them (sort of hacking for music toys).

@DoeDeerDoe Hi. Circuit Bending the Speak & ____ units is quite easy actually if you have basic soldering skills and buy the parts you need. I used Reed Ghazala's book to do the units I've done. This one was done by someone else. If you look online, you can find easy to read schematics for it.
There are quite a few places to bend it, it's really up to you and they work on all of the units.

Is there any way i could modify a Speak and Spell to send voice output to a PC via USB or something? I can't find any voice synthesis software that properly emulates a speak and spell voice synthesis chip.

@poopskinTheLiar The way the Speak & Spell works, it doesn't just say any words, only speaks the words it's programmed to say. All you can do it make it say the letters.
THere are quite a few emulators out there, some of which will say words you type in. Have you tried some of those?
