Yes, Jack was one of Eddie's closest friends (and that also included George Burns and George Jessel), 'Mendy'. In fact, Eddie's best known TV appearance, outside of his "COLGATE COMEDY HOUR" shows, was his surprise appearance at the end of one of Benny's April 1953 episodes [with guest star Fred Allen]. Eddie had recently recovered from a major heart attack, and the audience's reaction upon seeing him was incredible...

well, the first half's alright :(
I wanted to let you know--I am a folk singer in the New England area. After watching this video I quickly assembled a collection of all the Eddie Cantor material I could find. I've worked the first part of this song into an acoustic arrangement which I play with regularity (I added a verse for length). I will count Eddie Cantor among my main influences for the remainder of my life. Thank you for introducing me to such a wonderful talent.

Cantor is typical of the over-stylized performers who came out of the first decade of the 20th century; either you love him, or you don't. Well, I LOVE CANTOR from his early Ziegfeld days right through his T.V. shows that I watched as a toddler laughing at "Maxie the Taxie". On the night Cantor died I played in a benefit concert with one of his closest friends in the business, Jack Benny. I was a 14 year old in a youth symphony he was helping. Benny was sensational that night. Show Business
