The Obama administration is gearing up for early negotiations with Russia on a new treaty that would sharply reduce stockpiles of nuclear warheads. Therefore President Barack Obama is fulfilling his promise that he seeks verifiable reductions in all U.S. and Russian nuclear weapons. Russia has welcomed the idea. Do the negotiations have a good chance to succeed? Well be talking about it with Andrew Kuchins, the director and senior fellow of the Russia and Eurasia programme at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, and Aleksandr Konovalov, the President of the Institute of Strategic Assessments and a professor at the Moscow State University of Foreign Relations.

  • america should give up their nuclear weapon all problem solve

  • Listen america is a nuclear war starts with you and russia dont ask the brits to get involved!

  • i hope he does.

  • Lol, you think Russia will give up their expensive toys? Not a chance... Oh, yes, Russia has the best conventional weapons ever built. Look into Scalar Waves... You'll see that they can fuck NATO and USA in a single day. The Russians should be left alone, the bear was sleeping, Georgia poked it and now it's waking up. I say, someone sing a lullaby to Russia, before it's wide awake...

  • the usa decided to calm down realtions with russia because it realized that russia can cause alot of stratigic defeat to the usa speacialy in central asia and south america. the decision made by kirgizia to close the american air base in manas was due to the russian influence in kirgizia to decrease the american influence and presence in central asia which caused a big stratigic loss to the american war on terror in afganistan

  • Highly unlikely considering most Russian ICMB's are Mobile and are designed for second strike capability.

  • Disarmonent would be only an advantage for NATO. Conventional weapons would play a higher role with nuclear weapons in a first strike to destroy most of the russian nukes before they could be launched.

  • Well, Putin knows better than to be cheated by NATO and USA. Putin has the bigger stick and shouldn't put it aside...

  • What "AMDS would be effective enough" mean?

    With 100% probabilyty? I doubt.

It will be "russian roulette" anyway.

  • agreed. Russia must be extremely prudent nuclear disarmoment. at least, they should not go for more than 20% cut of their nuclear warheads. since Gorbachev's times americans and NATO cheated Russia so many times that no single word from the West should be taken for granted. Obama just does not know how to deal with russian independent policies and what americans want is clear: to cut russian nuclear arsenal down to the level when AMDS would be effective enough in securing America. that's it.
