October 29, 2911 - Freakish Nor'easter-driven snowstorm hits Central New Jersey and is expected to whomp most of New England later on. This footage shot near Princeton, New Jersey, supposedly on the edges of the main storm.

Trees have yet to shed their leaves here, as you can see in the footage, and the snow is unusually wet and heavy so there are branches breaking all over the place, roads blocked, power outages. I was lucky mine was able to remain on to capture and edit this footage.

More commentary to come later, perhaps. This is some of the raw footage, posted in the interest of timeliness.

  • @z5i LOL This part of NJ is not that far north of Washington DC. The British Embassy in DC was sited to ensure that diplomats would get extra tropical pay. Fun fact.

  • thanks for posting that heavy wet snow is a lot of problems

  • @anmoose The good news is that because my ex is without power, as are others in the area, and expected to stay out until Halloween, at least the connection a friend asked me to double-check online, my daughters will be spending the day with me today, though mainly because they can't do homework without power. Not really sure school will be open tomorrow. We'll see. It's very pretty out, if chilly. Update coming if my machine doesn't die first.

  • Och!! It's not even winter yet! Makes me very happy I'm in Florida.

I hadn't known it was this bad, but I just caught a video sign543 put up from Allentown, PA, and they're without power. This is brutal.

  • Thank you for sharing this epic piece of history with us!

  • @aireschel1787 Exactly. I wish I'd had my camera going for the drive a few hours earlier, but I'm just not crazy enough to go out in this. Getting phone calls from neighbors whose power is likely to be out for several days, wanting to use my refrigerator. PSE&G may not get power back where it's gone until after Halloween. 200,000 homes just in their service area are out, and they cover a small section of Jersey from NYC to Philly.

  • @z5i are the leaves still on the trees in September in Norway? Roads are littered with trees that accumulated heavy snow on leaves and could not handle the weight. Pennsylvania struck by this October snowstorm as well, although it seems the heaviest snow will be north.
