@papadoc711 hundreds of Irishmen volunteered to fight for Franco, but O'Duffy (ex IRA man) chose only 'the best' for his greenshirt brigade, and yeah they were basically crap soldiers, who had no idea how to fight in a real war. On the other side the Irish soldiers refused to join the much larger British Battalion because many of them had loyalist sympathies, and one of them was even recognised as a black and tan. Frank Ryan later moved to Berlin with Sean Russel as guests of the Nazis.

He even offered his condolences on the death of Hitler, and during the war the British offered to end partition if Ireland fought against the nazis, but that was flatly refused. Jews were blocked form Ireland in ww2, many even sent back to certain death. The Vatican and the catholic church supported Mussilini, Franco and Hitler from the start, the royal family condoned goign to war against the nazis

@papadoc711 The IRA have existed since the Easter Rising, and have been fairly active the whole time. The UVF never really targetted civilians they were the Peoples Army there to defend their communities from terrorist attacks.
