It's a voice program called Vocaloid where you input the notes and the lyrics. Of course, since there are different types of voices (some people sound better with bubblegum pop-esque songs while others are better for ballads) They made different voices for vocaloid. Hatsune Miku is one of them, but is by far the most popular; for comparison, her popularity (in Japan at least) is akin to that of Harry Potter's: they're imaginary, but they certainly have a large fanbase.
