Yeah but viewing stuff during the day is quite risky, just have to make sure the sun is well out of the way, like the opposite side of the sky. As I'm sure you already know but just be careful.

This is the MOST pretty moon image I have ever seen beside the Apollo documentary. I myself shot some moon footage few years ago with 35mm Arri III with a modified 1000mm Canon Lens with a 2x timer. OK footage :)

How do I buy a reasonably good telescope? It's my first telescope.

I'd recommend a Maksutov Cassegrain or Schmidt Cassegrain scope. They are multiple-purpose scopes combining good aperture, optics and portability. Check out Orion or Celestron on the web.
