I hooked the (3.3 KW) RV Generator to our home (Natural Gas) Furnace during the big 2008 snow storm in Portland. NOTE: This is not a 'how-to' video! Shown here for informational purposes only. Always isolate power sources/supplies when linking home systems to generators!

To clarify: YES, I disconnected incoming (house) power to the furnace, to isolate it. Yes-everything's well grounded. ALL circuit breakers turned 'off' during blackouts. ALSO: My RV generator is only 2,200 watts.

Great job, how many of your neighbors wanted to stay with you? lol. And did you have it grounded? I ran my furnace off a 900 watt generator last winter for 2 days after we lost our power from the blizzard of 2010 in pittsburgh.

did you bypass everything and just hot wire the power to the furnace controller and fan?

And shut off the main fuse for the furnace system so went power lines goes back up, you won't be affected?
