A Dickens' Christmas Comes to Life! The season was celebrated in a Christmas card setting come to life at the annual Deck the Halls party on December 4, 2011.

Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit would have felt quite at home in the Mathews Memorial Library when the children and adults in the community gathered to decorate the library trees. This annual event ushered in the holiday season at the library for the sixth year and provided an enchanting, old-fashioned holiday setting..

Five trees, representing customs and traditions of Mathews prevalent throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, were filled with ornaments donated by residents of the community. While decorating the trees, participants enjoyed refreshments and the festive sounds of the season performed by local musicians and carolers.

An exciting addition to this year's celebration was an informal production of "A Christmas Carol," performed at 3 p.m. by adults and youth and directed by Sherry Hamilton.
