On August 2, 338 BC, the Macedonians defeated the Greeks at Chaeronea in central Greece and conquered their country. On the battlefiled they erected an impressive sculpture of a proud-standing lion. The same lion sculpture is also found in the Macedonian city of Amphipolis.

Really? How come we don't need to translate when talking among people of other dialects? Let me tell you why now. Because Ancient Macedonia was there way before you arrived, as nomadic Hellenic tribes from the south. As such, it stands to logic that they would need to translate your language, they were not Hellenic. Just because later many spoke greek means nothing.
