This is a purely Smyrna-İzmir song despite the claims refering to be an Egypt song. This song was composed by an Egyptian Musician ,Mısırlı İbrahim Efendi who was originally a Jew named Abraham Levi living in İzmir.Against uncertain opinions, this song firstly was composed in Turkish with very very high probability or in Arabic. And the song was loved a lot in that time's İzmir and translated to Greek language. And A Greek named Mihalis Patrinas who immigrated to the USA in 1908 took this song to the USA and made it famous there. After a long time,in 1960s,Dick Dale,an American guitarist made an instrumental version as Miserlou. As you can understand from the name,it was composed for an Egyptian girl,Mısırlı.Then later, this song was used a Generic music of a 1994 Hollywood producted Quentin Tarantino film,Pulp Fiction that Uma Thurman and John Travolta shared the main characters,in 1998 it was again a soundtrack for another Hollywood film,Taxi.Recently American Music group Black Eyed Peas sings this music as a new name after a century-Pump It!And on the other hand in Greece, this song was taken by the Turkish-Greek population Exchange to Pireaus by Greek immigrants from Smyrna in 1923.And for many years,it was sung by the Rebetiko groups in the Cafe Amans of Athens. In 1970s,Glykeria version made this song popular again all around Greece and in 2004,famous Greek singer Anna Vissi sang Miserlou at the opening ceremony of Olympic Games. In 2005,Athinaiki kompania gave a new version of the same song in Taximi tune. Also there is more version by Greek singers as Eleni Tsaligopoulo. In Turkey, this song was remembered again with Zeki Müren in 1970s with different lyrics of the same music named as Yaralı Gönül(Injured Heart).Recently in 2005,Turkish singer Pamela Spence adopted the song from Black Eyed Peas with Turkish lyrics again.

  • @masova1968 at the end we are all humans, aren't we ??

  • thx mparmparos for the extensive research and description of the song. a lot of people think it is a popular american song, how stupid ! actually it is one of the very old, widely spread melodies that touched people's hearts through the centuries ! i would appreciate a little bit more respect in the comments, what the heck about is it Greek or Jewish or whatever ? obviously it is arabic or at least arabic influenced and the Greek brought it from Smyrna (Izmir) to greece

  • My friend you talk bollocks. This song is 100% Greek, why all this crap to prove its Egyptian Jewish or Turkish or whatever?Typical Byzantine mode(scale),

  • @masova1968 man.. you truly are a racist and your words are fully supporting the definition of "racism". thats just wrong. every human dna is the same actually. because humans came to this world as one specie. its not like god made us come here different as turks and greeks or italians. we are all the same. and if there is even %0.01 difference between any human, we would be evolve because of this change.

  • For those who think they know everything...

    1) The DNA make-up of today's Greeks is 99.5% white. The study cliams that today's Greek has 99.5% the same DNA make-up as as the white Greeks of ancient times.

    2) Contrary to beliefs by many in Turkey and certain Slavic nations of ex-Yugoslavia, Greek DNA has not been influenced, nor altered, by the mixture of Slavic or Turkish DNA, even though Ottomans ruled a large part of Greece for 400 years.

  • TÜRK IRKI SAĞOLSUN !

    Ege'den selamlar İZMİR

  • Silly guys instead of seeking all the roots about your great greek ancestors, just look at the picture all the blond greeks how became dark skin curly hair after 450 years OTTOMAN RULE! Our girls all you are!
