This video was inspired by the vid Sonny Liston, "A Man" an excellent profile of both Sonny Liston the man and the standout boxer and champion. You can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQX2NQWePqM. Check it out, it's worth watching.

Upon seeing it, I came up with an idea to do a similar tribute for Muhammad Ali, with the premise being that an Ali fan watching during Ali's disastrous match with Larry Holmes has multiple flashbacks to Ali's glory days in the 60s and 70s. Hence why all the past clips are in black and white, and all the "current" ones with Holmes are in color.

Music used: Shawshank Redemption theme (Brooks Was Here)

Some of the other fighters appearing in this video include: Holmes, Liston, Cleveland Williams, Karl Mildenberger, Archie Moore, Zora Foley, Brian London, Henry Cooper, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Jurgen Blin, and Jerry Quarry

  • is this his last fight?

  • The fight with Holmes was his actually his next to last. Although not well known, Ali actually had one more fight after that, little more than a 10 round sparring session with Trevor Berbick.

He actually did better in that fight than he did against Holmes, (thanks to not being on incorrect meds that a quack doctor gave him) but it convinced Ali that he really was done.

  • is that melodie in the movie Seven Pounds?

  • Never seen Seven Pounds, but I know this song comes from Shawshank Redemption. They might have reused it in the other, or if it was the same conductor it might be a similar tune.

  • screw holmes.

    ali for ever.

  • Ali's footwork was incredible. In one fight, the opponent missed over 100 punches throughout the whole match.

  • He is the greatest boxer to walk this planet and I would not be suprised if we never see a better one. Ali hard to see a legend a great in a bad way.

  • Man i wish i would of been born during this time so i could see him box. So much better than todays heavyweights or anyone for that matter.

  • i hate larry. he isnt even a good boxer who does he think he is doin that to Ali an why would u want to. i would love to see him try that pish in Alis prime. unessasery!! wonder how old larry felt when he fought tyson,hu!

  • @BoiiiWonder Nop, Sharshanwk redemption !!!

  • whats the name of the song? btw awesome video.

  • This clip is a tear-jerker.

When Holmes was destroying Ali, all in a sudden it turns to review the great moments of Ali's career...so obviously indicating Ali was no more fast and pretty by being tortured by the Parkinson both physically and mentally.

Larry Holmes, indeed a decent and formidable boxer, but far too little comparing with "PRIME ALI"

  • just goes to show, all great things(including the greatest) must come to an end.. but Ali doesn't want you to feel bad for him, he said so himself. if you ask me he'll always be the champ and he'll always be the greatest boxer that ever lived

  • Sad to see Ali way past his prime against holmes and then see him in his prime vs Liston. Brings tears.

  • I Love Muhammad Ali! Sad to see him old and a shadow of his former self! I really believe that Ali in his prime could have beaten ANY boxer.....i really do!!!!!

  • i wish ali never grew old! the fact is he was human as we all are and we all will grow old as ali did. he still is my hero and greatest of all time
