Information; music, art, literature all those things that are valued so highly by this 'hipster' sub-culture are also then closesly protected and subversed so as to not 'go mainstream'. It feeds into this idea that everyone wants to know something the next guy doesn't, or be on some shit someone else isn't. It's elitism on cultural level. Get over yourself. Spread it like butter. - Popularity doesn't erode any art's quality - it's the individual that allows it to erode their interpretations.
