In May of 2010, you guys watched as I upgraded the 1.5gig internal hard drive to a 4gig. Since then, I have acquired 3 more 4gig drives. It is great to have all that extra storage.
One problem: Hard drives are inherently noisy devices. And being mechanical in nature, all hard drives WILL fail one day...just a fact of life.

The solution? A solid state "hard drive"!! SD cards are widely available and are quite inexpensive. They seem to be pretty much a "universal" storage medium these days.
Now the challenge is to find out if an IDE to SD card adapter will work in the old VS880...

  • I have two of these machines. What about the IDE partitions?...or does it just read the storage capacity?

  • @SuperAxmaker

The VS880 will read the drive capacity. Keep in mind that the max that the 880 will "see" is 4Gigs. The max size of any partition is 1 Gig. I think the VS880 can create four partitions, depending on the size of the hd you have. So a 4Gig hard drive would have a max of four 1Gig partitions.

Each partition is treated as a seperate "drive" in the firmware of the VS880.

  • @SuperAxmaker ,your a genius!!!!,great job,listen will this work with the vs880-ex the same way?..Much appreciated..

  • @djcheechoz

Yes, this conversion will work exactly the same in the VS880EX. They use the same drive system and firmware.

  • do you think this will work with the zip drive version of the roland the BR-8

  • @ticoticotic

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the BR-8. My best guess is that as long as it has an IDE connector, you should be able to get an adapter to work in there.

  • For anyone who is looking for the ide to sd adapter, here's one place where you can find it...DHGate item number 1181.

    Good luck with your upgrade.

  • @rickbell7 thank you...this is what was needed in the blurb in the vidoe detail. I don't get why the exact brand and specs of the device aren't listed at the top. I have had to do similar conversions with yamaha units and I explained the specifics. Thanks,

  • Great Vid! I hope I don't end up breaking mine.
