Dr Wong Chin Huat is a steering committee of BERSIH 2.0, and a political scientist who did his doctorate in comparative democratisation at the University of Essex, UK. He now teaches journalism at Monash University Sunway Campus in Malaysia. He writes political commentaries in English, Chinese and Malay for alternative media including .the Nutgraph and Free.Malaysia Today. Besides electoral reform, he is also an advocate of freedom of expression and a pioneer in non-violent creative protests.

Dr Wong was arrested twice for standing up for democracy. In 2009, he was arrested for three days under Malaysia's notorious Sedition Act for calling Malaysians to wear black in protest of a constitutional coup in Perak, which saw an elected state government overthrown by defection of lawmakers and denied the right to seek a new mandate. He has in fact been wearing black in protest for most of the days since February 2009 when the state monarch (Sultan) of Perak controversially sacked the state's chief minister. Only after the infamous 709, he occasionally wears yellow in defiance of the government's paranoia to the official colour of BERSIH 2.0.
