The Tiger Leaping Gorge is a spectacular gorge carved out by the Yangzi River deep in the mountains of Yunnan. Over 3km from the rushing waters to the snow-capped peaks, the place is one breathtaking vista after another.

We spent 2 days hiking the gorge, stopping in a village halfway through at Tea Horse Guesthouse. This video is the record of the first day.

  • Thanks for this, I did the trek back in 2006 and nearly died :). We had heavy rain and rock slides and the friend we were with nearly fell to his death at one point. Early in the trek we also came across a guy demanding money because we took a photo of "his land"... seems quite common

  • @thetruespin No worries, that guy is gonna end up in a landslide someday... Thx for watching!

  • Our group ran into a guy like that last week when we hiked this area. He was carrying a big knife with him so we missed out on some nice views of Tiger Leaping Gorge just beyond the gruelling 28 bends....

  • What a jackass... I think as a group you could have just pushed him off the cliff.

  • @thetruespin I got lost on the trail after one of the locals pointed me in the wrong direction. Thank goodness I was able to reach Margo, owner of the cafe at the beginning of the hike, who gave me directions back to safety.

  • It's wonderful to be given a glimpse of another person's travel that's more than a postcard. I really loved the view and you guys took it on with force and grace.

    Kudos. ^_~

  • Well, we were surprised by his hostility. Everyone else we came across in Yunnan and Southern China was extremely peaceful and courteous. We decided to just continue on enjoying the beauty of the area and of the people. I bet if the other locals found out what he was up to, they'd rough him up.

  • The views at 7:00 and 8:00 are breathtaking.

  • I meant some jackass like that in Beijing.

  • i had been there too. some horsemen there are terrible
