I was sitting just past the finish line in the grandstands at this race and you could almost feel that car hit the wall. It was a big hit. Everyone likes wrecks, but that was a pretty scary one (no matter who was driving).

@CBright7831 Nascar has always been progressing in the area of safety. The changes they made after dales death were just spotlighted more because it was dale.

If Dale Earnhardt had not died in the 2001 Daytona 500, Jeff Gordon would've died or been seriously hurt in this crash. Earnhardt's death made NASCAR safer, but it's a pity it took his death for NASCAR to go "Hmmm, maybe we should do something about this." Especially since numerous other driver had died before him.
