As we sit at the precipice of a new era of exploration, I thought it appropriate to revisit the original inspiration and rationale for the first lunar exploration program as so eloquently stated by John F. Kennedy. The original speech by JFK was held in Houston, TX at the Rice Stadium in the fall of 1962.
"Many years ago the great British explorer George Mallory, who was to die on Mount Everest, was asked why did he want to climb it. He said, 'Because it is there.' Well, space is there, and we're going to climb it, and the moon and the planets are there, and new hopes for knowledge and peace are there. And, therefore, as we set sail we ask God's blessing on the most hazardous and dangerous and greatest adventure on which man has ever embarked."

lol the word "silly" was a term JFK used alot. he sounded funny saying it, especially with that Irish accent. But yes, a wonderful president. Nobody's perfect, JFK definetely wasn't, but he was better than the rest...
JFK cared a great deal about re-election. He planned on pulling the troops out of Vietnam by mid 1964, however, there was a problem: The Vietnam war was popular at the time since U.S. citizens considered it "fighting and beating the Communists" so if JFK pulled out of Vietnam before the next elextion, he would surely have lost being labeled as a Communist Sympethiser. That is why he decided to withdraw in 1965. He knew by then the people would see what Vietnam really was: A waste of U.S. lives.

"unitard"? If you had any common sense you would have know that I was implying on what he was PLANNING to do. I mean who the fuck doesn't know he was assassinated in 1963? And yes, we DID have troops in Nam, around 17,000 actually. It was Eisenhower who put the military advisors there, then JFK added actually troops to the mix. Johnson escelated, Nixon further escelated, then pulled out. I admire JFK, but "facts" as you percieve them, are facts. He added troops. Funny how I said this w/o dissing
True, but like you say, Goddard was first to build (and, independently of Oberth and Tsiolkovsky, to theorize) the first liquid fuel rocket. Thought to extend my earlier comment, Goddard's achievement would not have been possible without Tsiolkovsky's, nor would his without Newton's, etc.
