Yes, but times change, and another truth about the song is that the what she wants is, ultimately, a simple life with love and a few comforts. And I think that lledroc96 is right that it's a nice daydream, not a terrible one.

While some of the lyrics may seem funny (ie. 12 inch screen and such) it makes one think, if those simple things we take granted are all she wants, where does that say she is now? Such a tragically beautiful song.

My thoughts exactly. Her innocent hopes are tragic but the tongue-in-cheek lyrics help temper the tone of the song so it fits perfectly into the movie. To me, this is both the most emotional and charming song of the musical, more so than "Suddenly Seymour"

I don't know what it is about this song, but it makes me cry every time. Maybe it's the sadness and hopefulness in her voice, or maybe remembering Howard Ashman and sort of comparing this to "Part of That World." They're pretty similar.
