Using a network of telescopes scattered across the globe, including the Danish 1.54m telescope at ESO La Silla (Chile), astronomers discovered a new extrasolar planet significantly more Earth-like than any other planet found so far. The planet, which is only about 5 times as massive as the Earth, circles its parent star in about 10 years. It is the least massive exoplanet around an ordinary star detected so far and also the coolest. The planet most certainly has a rocky/icy surface. Its discovery marks a groundbreaking result in the search for planets that support life. The new planet, designated by the unglamorous identifier of OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb, orbits a red star five times less massive than the Sun and located at a distance of about 20,000 light years, not far from the centre of our Milky Way galaxy.

  • building a bigger space telescope is too hard, we should build several telescopes working together to zoom further. Organic life is maybe rare in the universe but today we can't affirm it's only on earth like the bible states, God maybe created organic alien civilizations on other planets in which god is maybe teaching his laws. Angels are aliens who can explain strange phenomens on earth but not elsewhere in the other galaxies, they're spirits not especially space travellers.

  • @HISservant21 why why? nothing gives sense in the bible for me. but you can belive what you want. but then stop trolling us who actually likes science and go watch some religes vidios if thats what you want

  • @niIIer1 - "To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. - Psa 14:1-2

  • @HISservant21 god my a#h

  • It's refreshing to think how outdated this video sounds after just a couple of years, this field of research is moving very fast. ^^

  • @soar313 i know right? but alpha and proxima centauri are binary system so i guess it wont be easy to find a habitable planet or any at all :(

  • 0:45 Don't go all general on our brains.

How common? How many occupied stars? How many per star?

  • @kn1b1s95 To find extrasolar planets, distance is not so much of a factor. there are other factors that make it more likely to find one. also more distant extrasolar planets are more interestring than near ones just like more distant cities look more interestring than near ones.

We are in the early steps, doing basic research. we can not reach any of these anytime soon anyways, so disttance does not matter as much. what matters more is the history of all these.

  • We need to look for planets in stars much closer to us (beginning with the closest star and moving to the 2nd closest and so on)!!!
