PLAYCUBE: Dartmouth College's first site-specific, mobile exhibition space, created in response to the needs of faculty and students engaged in novel media projects. As both an exhibition studio and a space for experimentation, the PLAYCUBE is highly interdisciplinary and it ties together the arts with the sciences. The PLAYCUBE is both a spectacle to observe and a tool for participatory interaction. AREA: Too often art either stays in the classroom or in artists' closets--AREA gives Dartmouth student artists the opportunity to present their art in a professional, public setting. Established in 2002, AREA is Dartmouth College's student-run art gallery. Each and every piece in the exhibition is created by current Dartmouth students. AREA is located in the "Top of the Hop." [PLAY]: The collection of work that comprises the 2009 summer student art show is unified by the theme "play". Play enters these works in many different forms: Play with light, play with color, interactive play, and game-play. This collaborative exhibit establishes a precedent for multimedia art at Dartmouth College, as the diversity of work ranges from computer programming to corrugated cardboard.
