Bela Lugosi Jr. complained about this scene, because he claimed his father never swore, and he and Karloff were never rivals.

Bela was kind of uptight in his Hollywood years, it was clear when he didn't feel he needed to throw all of his acting talent at something. Karloff always seemed to bring his A-game even if the movie was crap.
