He's got two (three, but focuses on two) copies of the record. It mostly sounds as though he's just playing the song, BUT this allows him to: scratch in each vocal line she's about to sing (I love how that sounds), add his own echoes to words, manipulate the two volumes to add extra effects, and--best part--1:43-2:10 he adds his own organ part by dropping the needles around on different notes.
